Turf Care

If you desire a picture perfect presentation of your yard year round, fertilization, weed control and adequate water are required. The shrubs, when pruned or trimmed at the proper times, will grow beautiful and lush as well. We will see to it that the fertilization and weed control take place. We can treat all turf types, on the schedule that is best for your turf, because we have a different program for each type.  These programs are designed specifically for each type of grass so that proper and adequate nutrient is delivered when it is needed. The right herbicide, both pre- and post-emergent is applied in accordance with seasonal, and turf grass specific needs so that your lawn can look it's best year round.

Warm Season Grasses

Bermuda Grass

Bermuda grasses are the most popular and durable turf grasses used for lawns in Georgia. These are warm season grasses that grow best during the warm months of spring, summer, and fall. They grow vigorously during this time and become brown and dormant in winter.

All Bermuda’s thrive in hot weather but perform poorly in shade. They spread rapidly by above-and-below-ground runners that are difficult to control around planting beds and paved areas. If fertilized properly, they need frequent mowing.

The improved hybrid Bermuda grasses can produce the finest lawns in Georgia if properly maintained. Golf course quality lawns can be grown but they require intensive maintenance.

Zoysia Grass

Zoysia is thought of by many as the 'Cadillac of Lawn Grasses' because of its dark green color, density, low growth habit, and higher price.

This grass simply cannot be neglected for long periods of time, but if fertilized once or twice annually, watered as needed and cut regularly, it makes a lawn in sun and/or moderate shade the envy of any neighborhood.

Centipede Grass

Centipede is a warm season grass that requires the lowest amount of maintenance.  It is a slow-growing, apple-green, coarse-leaved turf grass that is adapted for use as a low maintenance, general purpose turf. It requires little fertilizer, infrequent mowing, and grows well in full sun to moderate shade. Centipede grass tolerates dry spells rather well and greens up rapidly after brief drought with irrigation or rainfall. It does not tolerate traffic as well as Bermuda grass. A Centipede lawn can be established from either seeds or sod.

 St. Augustine Grass

St. Augustine is a common lawn grass in middle and southern Georgia. It is green during the growing

season and goes semi-dormant in winter.

The grass has large flat stems and broad coarse leaves somewhat similar to centipede grass. It has an

attractive blue-green color and forms a deep, fairly dense turf. It spreads by long, above-ground runners. St. Augustine grass is the most shade-tolerant warm-season grass. It is susceptible to winter injury, especially if planted in the upper third of Georgia. Perhaps the greatest disadvantage of this grass is its sensitivity to an insect: the chinch bug. Chinch bugs can cause extensive damage to St. Augustine grass if not controlled. Gray leaf spot disease causes severe damage also.

Cool Season Grass

Tall Fescue

Tall Fescue is a cool season grass that remains green during the winter. Although it grows best in moist environments, tall fescue has fairly good drought tolerance if not mowed too low during the warm season (no less than 4 inches in height).

Tall fescue is adapted to a wide range of soils, but does best on clay soils high in organic matter. Tall fescue is well adapted to the "transition zone" of the United States where summers are too hot and humid for most other cool season grasses and winters are too cold for warm season grasses.

Tall fescue performs best in the South with some afternoon shade, however will remain healthy in appearance during summer under irrigated conditions. Although its wear tolerance is considered good for cool season grasses, it is not nearly as wear tolerant as Bermuda grass.
